Guangzhou Port Group Co., Ltd. is a wholly state-owned company. On Feb. 26, 2004, Guangzhou Port Group reformed and separated from the former Guangzhou Harbor Bureau in accordance with relevant Chinese laws on modern enterprise mechanism.
As a comprehensive hub port in South China, Guangzhou Port Group Co., Ltd. covers business as: loading & discharging, storing, bonded warehousing for cargoes as containers, oil, coal, grain, chemical fertilizer, steel, ore, automobiles etc. In 2008, Guangzhou Port accomplished cargo throughput of 347 million tons, and container throughput 11 million TEUs, ranking No.7 of the world.
Currently, Guangzhou Port has more than 20 container berths of different classes operated by its subsidiaries as: Nansha Stevedoring Company (Nansha Phase I), Guangzhou South China Oceangate Container Terminal (Nansha Phase II), Guangzhou Container Terminal (GCT), Huangpu Old Port, Hennan Branch and Xinfeng Branch. Guangzhou Port container business develops leaps and bounds by Nansha Terminal’s construction. In 2009, approved by PRC’s State Council and MOC publicized for Nansha Terminal official open to the international from Feb. 28th. Customs, CIQ and other inspection units therefore will be officially stationed inside the port.
Nansha Terminal (Phase I & Phase II included) locates at the estuary of Pearl River covering 14 cities as Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhuhai, Zhaoqing, Zhongshan within radius of 60kms. Nansha Terminal is the only deepwater container terminal on the west of PRD. It has ten 100,000-tonnage-class container berths capable for accommodating 10,000-TEU vessels. Channel depth is -15.5m and has 4 Super Post Panamax quay cranes and 94 RTGs
Maersk, MSC, CMA-CGM, Evergreen, COSCO, CSCL etc launch services to different directions as to the US, Europe, Mediterranean, the Red Sea, Middle East, Intra Asia and Africa (ship schedule listed below). With transit time about 15- 20 days to North America base port as Los Angeles, Seattle, Oakland, Vancouver etc. With 20-26days to European base port as Antwerp, Hamburg, Felixstowe etc.
On 18th October 2008, Nansha was approved by State Council of P.R.C to be China’s 9th bonded port. After being checked & accepted by the state, export cargos will be regarded as leaving the border and get taxes refund.
In order to further promote Nansha Terminal international services, Guangzhou Port Group completes it distribution network. For waterway, it launched “Shuttle Bus” services connecting with PRD medium/small sized terminals (ship schedule listed below). From July 2007 till now, Guangzhou Port has launched 17 feeder services including Shunde, Zhongshan, Foshan, Zhaoqing, HK etc. For intermodal, Guangzhou Port coordinated for the block train deployment from Guangzhou Port ? Kunming, which operated from 25th March 2008 and benefits cargos from inland as yunman province transit through Guangzhou Port.
